Renowned for its food scene, something that we love to do here is eat out. While at home I love to cook. When in Canggu I love to be cooked for.
To all the food lovers out there, don’t overlook Canggu’s food scene on your next trip to Bali.
Canggu Cuisine for Foodies
Sensorium. A breakfast & lunch cafe with Australian decor & Asian style food. If you want something a little different, sensational but still easy on the pocket, Sensorium is the place to go.
Pro’s : Not your usual eggs benedict type breakfast place.
Con’s : There is sometimes a small wait for your table & they don’t take bookings.
Shelter. Shelter is one of the hottest spots in town, and always busy. Middle Eastern inspired food in a candle-lit open air restaurant. The food backs up the reputation which is a feast for your eyes as well as your taste buds.
Pro’s : The food is excellent.
Con’s : You need to book in advance for groups.

Ulekan. Served within a gorgeous Indonesian style building, Ulekan is our go for traditional Indonesian food done really well. My favourite is the Nasi Campur. They do a version with meat as well as a vegetarian version.
Pro’s : The fit-out is understatedly stunning.
Con’s : The menu is limited.
Best Food Presentation
Kynd Cafe. 100% plant based, you can’t miss this restaurant as it is pink.
As far as food presentation, I vote this as one of Canggu’s top restaurants in 2025. This is the perfect place for your next Instagram post.
They also sell their own cookbooks if you feel like getting creative in the kitchen.
My favourite dish is the Vietnamese pho. For a sweet treat I am obsessed with the peanut butter filled chocolate cookie & the hot cacao.
Pro’s : The branding is on point.
Con’s : It is crowded during the day and the tables inside are really close together.

Best Vegan & Vegetarian Restaurants in Canggu
Secret Spot. Enjoy live music at their Friday & Sunday sessions starting at 7pm. The back courtyard is super cute with a really nice bar area to enjoy a cocktail.
My favourites are the falafel bowl, the coconut curry and the lasagne. The falafel is light and filling, and the lasagne is rich and hearty & the curry is spicy and delicious. .
Pro’s : A great place to dine alone in the front, or listen to live music in the back.
Con’s : During the day it has a co-working vibe with many people on their laptops. .
Shady Shack. A Canggu original, the Shady Shack was good then and it’s still good now.
Open air, rustic & peaceful with tables beneath the shade of palm trees. This is yet another find where the food is hearty but the prices haven’t shot through the roof. This is still one of the best vegetarian restaurants in Canggu in 2025.
My favourite dishes here are the ‘Pillow Talk’ gnocchi & the jackfruit burger. The nachos are delicious too – just not gluten free.
Pro’s : The setting is gorgeously rustic and casual.
Con’s : Can’t think of any.

Best Gluten Free Pasta & Tacos
Lacalita. Delicious Mexican food with a fun weekend vibe. Lacalita is one of the only Mexican restaurants in Canggu that do gluten free tacos.
Go on Taco Tuesday and you will get 30k tacos and 100k margaritas all day long.
Pro’s : The taco’s are gluten free as well as delicious.
Con’s : It can be noisy if you sit outside.
Arte. I had to double check if the pizza at Arte was in fact gluten free because it was so good. The base is soft, bubbly & doughy. Hands down the best gluten free pizza that I have ever had – anywhere!
Pro’s : The gluten free pizza is just as good as regular pizza.
Con’s : The chairs can be a little uncomfortable.

Favourite Quick, Easy & Affordable Restaurant in Canggu
Tiga. Indonesian cabinet food (nasi campur), with the option to order off the menu. A step above your usual cheap local warung. I absolutely love the laksa. The mango salad is also a staple in my diet.
Go after 9pm & the food is half price.
Pro’s : Affordable, casual & easy.
Con’s : It is often very busy so service can be slow.
Best Casual Breakfast in Canggu
Canteen. Another one that’s been here since the early days. Relaxed surf vibe with amazing staff who will often remember your order if you return.
Try their salmon scramble and their chia pudding. Two of my favourite breakfast dishes in Canggu. The coffee is on point too.
Pro’s : The staff are delightful & the food is consistently good.
Con’s : Zero.

Bella. Cool NYC vibe, delicious cuisine served sharing style.
The melt in your mouth charred octopus is so tender it can almost be cut with a spoon. The wagyu shish kebab is also an eye and mouth watering winner.
